Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the treatment done?
The treatment is best done on a wide surface, such as a bed. Testing and treatment positions often require lying down and rolling the body from side to side with the head firmly supported. A bed is often the best place to do the test and treatment for safety and to best support the patient's body. Additionally, we offer the option to have the test and procedure done on a 30" wide EarthLite Spirit portable table, ensuring comfort and proper support during your treatment.
What should I do to prepare for my appointment?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy movement of your head and neck.
What should I expect during the initial visit?
During the initial visit, we will review your medical history, perform a thorough examination, take your vitals, and conduct specific tests to diagnose your condition. Based on our findings, we will perform the appropriate treatment maneuvers.
How long does a session take?
Each evaluation and treatment session typically takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Should I take Meclizine before the evaluation?
It is generally recommended that you do not take Meclizine before your evaluation for vertigo. Meclizine, an antihistamine used to manage vertigo symptoms, can suppress the symptoms that healthcare providers need to observe in order to accurately diagnose and treat Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). Specifically, Meclizine can reduce or eliminate the vertigo and nystagmus (involuntary eye movements) that are critical for diagnosing BPPV through maneuvers like the Dix-Hallpike test. For the most accurate assessment, please discontinue Meclizine 24-48 hours prior to your appointment, unless otherwise directed by your healthcare provider.
What treatments are offered?
We provide repositioning maneuvers, such as the Epley maneuver, to move the dislodged crystals back to their correct location within the inner ear. These treatments are highly effective, and many patients experience significant relief after just one or two sessions.
Do I need a referral from a physician?
No, New Jersey is a direct access state, which means you do not need a physician's referral to receive physical therapy services from us.
How can I schedule an appointment?

What are your payment terms?
We are a cash-only service and do not accept insurance at this time. Payment is required at the time of service. The fee for each visit is $250. We accept payment via cash or check.

Do I have to wear a neck brace after the maneuver? No, you do not have to wear a neck brace after the maneuver. However, it can help remind you to keep your head upright. This increases compliance with head positioning and reduces the risk of dislodging the crystals back into the semicircular canals.
Can BPPV recur, and what should I do if it does?
Yes, BPPV can recur. If you experience a recurrence, contact us immediately for a follow-up treatment. We also provide guidance on at-home exercises to help prevent future episodes.
Can an MRI or Xray diagnose BPPV?
No, an MRI or X-ray cannot diagnose Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). BPPV is a disorder of the inner ear caused by dislodged otoliths (calcium carbonate crystals) in the semicircular canals. These imaging techniques are not able to detect these tiny crystals or their movement.
How Small are the Crystals in BPPV?
The crystals involved in Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) are tiny calcium carbonate particles called otoliths. These otoliths are microscopic, typically measuring between 1 to 20 micrometers in diameter. For comparison, a red blood cell is about 6 to 8 micrometers in diameter. This means that otoliths can be similar in size or even smaller than red blood cells, highlighting just how minuscule these particles are.
The room no longer spins when I move my head, but I still feel slightly dizzy when I turn my head and my balance is slightly off. What should I do?
After an episode of BPPV, some patients may continue to experience lingering dizziness and balance issues even though the intense spinning sensation has resolved. This can be due to several reasons: Residual Vestibular Dysfunction:
The inner ear may still be adjusting after the crystals have been repositioned, leading to continued but less severe dizziness. Vestibular Hypofunction:
This refers to the decreased function of the vestibular system, which can affect balance and spatial orientation. Muscle Tension and Guarding:
The muscles around the neck and shoulders may have become tense during episodes of vertigo, contributing to persistent dizziness and balance problems.
